Isaac Lemuel Willaims (1817-1895)Williams was born in Philadelphia on June 24, 1817. He was trained under John Neagle and John R. Smith. He was both a landscape and portrait painter. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, and in Boston. In 1852 he taught oil painting at the Burlington, Vermont Female Seminary. In 1860 he made a trip to Lake Superior with Thomas Moran. He was a member of the Artists Fund Society. He died in Philadelphia, PA on April 23, 1895. Titles of his known White Mountain subjects exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts were Great Stone Face and Profile Mountain. References |
