William Wallace Wotherspoon (1821-1888)William Wallace Wotherspoon listed his address as New York City form 1844 to 1848 and from 1852 to 1883. His landscape paintings were mainly of White Mountain scenes during the 1844 to 1848 period. He must have traveled abroad in 1849, since several Scottish landscapes were shown at the National Academy of Design in 1849 and 1850. In 1851 he was listed as living in Rome, Italy. He returned to New York City in 1852 and in the years to follow he exhibited many Italian landscapes at the National Academy. Wotherspoon was elected an Associate Member of the National Academy in 1848. Wotherspoon exhibited widely. In addition to the National Academy, he exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association (1871), the American Art Union, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1855), and the Washington Art Association (1857).
