Daniel Sprague Parkhurst (1831-1907) at Glen Ellis Falls

Daniel Sprague Parkhurst was an engraver and landscape painter. He was born in Connecticut in 1831 and lived most of his life in Providence, RI. He married Harriet M. Wheeler on October 20, 1856. He was in partnership with Charles Pabodie as engravers Pabodie & Parkhurst, 1857 to 1858.

So far not much is known of his earlier training or later career, but he is known to have painted in the White Mountains. One painting known to be owned by a private collector as of 1985 is titled Franconia Mountains from Franconia Notch, oil on canvas, 14 ½ x 22 ½ inches. A second painting owned by a private collector as of 2005 is titled View of Franconia Notch from Little Campton, NH, oil on canvas, 8 x 13 ¼ inches.

Parkhurst died on November 29, 1907 in Providence, RI, at age 76, having survived his wife by 16 years.
