John C. Miles began his studies in 1866 at the Lowell Institute in Boston and continued later under Benjamin Champney. He was a member of the Boston Art Club for eleven years and kept a studio in Boston. He was also a member of the Association of the Royal Canadian Academy.
He returned to St. Johns in 1877. His last known address was Malden, MA.
