Mansfield listed his addresses as New York City during the period 1878 to 1881 and Boston in 1885. He appears to have been active from 1877 to 1885. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design (1877-1880), the Boston Art Club (1880-1882), and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1880-1881).
At the National Academy of Design in 1880, he exhibited a painting entitled Cascade in Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire.
