Louis Remy Mignot (1831-1870)

Mignot studied drawing in Charleston, SC. He moved to Holland at the age of twenty to continue his studies for the following four years. Shortly after his return to the United States, he opened a studio in the 10th Street Studio Building in New York City, which he kept from 1858 to 1863.

In 1858 he was elected to the Century Association. In 1859 he became an associate member of the National Academy of Design and in 1860 a full member.

Shortly after the outbreak of the Civil War he moved permanently to England.
