Miss Barstow was a landscape and still-life painter active in the later part of the 19th century. She gave addresses of Sebago, ME and Brooklyn, NY. She traveled widely in the Northeast, painting in the Adirondacks, the Catskill, the White Mountains, and Mount Desert Island.
She exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1858 and 1859, the Brooklyn Art Association from 1863 to 1886, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1867 to 1869.
