Darius Cobb and his twin brother Cyrus were born in Malden, MA in 1834.
The brothers began their professional careers as self-taught lithographers, producing portraits and views, signed jointly, form the mid-to-late 1850s. Darius went on to work primarily as a portrait painter, although he also made large historical and religious paintings in collaboration with his brother.
He served throughout the Civil War with the 44th Massachusetts Volunteers.
Darius was also an art critic working for The Boston Traveler.
Darius is known to have painted some landscapes. He painted a White Mountain subject titled Bear Camp and Mount Whittier, N.H., oil on canvas, 14 x 18 inches.
He died in 1919 in Newton Upper Falls, MA.
