George Albert Frost was born in Boston December 23, 1843. He left school at age eleven to work on a farm where he had no opportunity to follow his artistic inclinations. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted and served for more than two years. He joined Colonel Pope’s division of the Western Union surveying party to British Columbia for which he produced sketches. In 1866 he was assigned to Asia for the same purpose. He studied in Germany from 1874 to 1876, and for the next ten years had a studio in North Cambridge, MA. In 1885 he accompanied George Kennan to Siberia to record the life of Russian exiles. For a good many years, Frost had a summer home in Brownfield, ME, near the Conway area of New Hampshire and painted many scenes along the Saco.
He exhibited at the San Francisco Art Association in 1874. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and exhibited there during the years 1896 to 1908. He died November 13, 1907 and his last known address was 53 Orchar St. Cambridge, Massachusetts.
His works are at the California State Library and the California Historical Society.

The funeral of George A. Frost, the well known artist, was held at his home, 53 Orchar street, on Sunday afternoon. A public service followed at St. James’s Episcopal Church, at 2 o’clock. In the absence of Rev. Dr. Edward Abbott, rector emeritus, a personal friend of Mr. Frost, who was away from the city, the rector, Rev. Robb White, conducted the service. The Beethoven Quartette sang “Abide with Me.” “Lead, Kindly Light” and “Face to Face.” At the close of the church service the service of the Grand Army was conducted by the chaplain and members of Francis Gould Post 36, of Arlington, of which Mr. Frost was a member. The body was borne by four members of the Sons of Veterans of Arlington. After the service it was taken to the west door of the edifice and uncovered and the congregation of about 300 persons was here given an opportunity to gaze for the last time on the features of Mr. Frost. In the congregation were many prominent Cambridge men, Including General William A. Bancroft, and a delegation from Mount Sinai Lodge, I. O. O. F. Burial was In Cambridge Cemetery.
