Dr. Edgar Miller Holmes, Sr., was a physician and ear, nose and throat specialist. He was a graduate of Harvard Medical School and maintained his office at 531 Beacon Street, in Boston, MA. Dr. Holmes served as a department chair at Boston City Hospital for 25 years and was an instructor in aural surgery at Tuft’s College. Holmes died on September 18, 1918 and is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown, CT.

The circa 1910 inscription is likely a later addition, possibly by a family member, as Jean Paul Selinger died on September 11, 1909. The inscription also references an improper initial pertaining to the name of the artist.
