Robert J. Pattison (1838-1903)

Robert J. Pattison was a landscape painter and teacher.

Pattison was born in New York City in 1838. He studied at the City College of New York. He was active in New York City and Brooklyn from 1858 on. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1858 to 1886, and the Brooklyn Art Association from 1873 to 1891. He was one of a core group of American Pre-Raphaelites that included Thomas C. Farrer, John William Hill, John Henry Hill, Charles Herbert Moore, Henry Roderick Newman, and William Trost Richards. He exhibited a White Mountain subject in 1867 at the Inaugural Exhibition at the Yale University Art Galley titled White Mountains from Shelboure [sic].
